I have 11450 hrs in this game and I always build an underground base. I also build an above ground base to fight the bloodmoon horde. Both are connected with tunnels and I never escape down the tunnel to avoid the horde. It's just the way I like to play.

@Survior When choosing your first POI it's best to choose one that's higher and preferably not wood. Use the roof of the building and break all the stairs so they can't get to you. I put up ladders all the way to the top of the building on the outside of the building and skipping the first two blocks so the zeds would have to jump 3 blocks high to reach the ladder. Usually I try to dig underground every night and I always dig while in a squatted position to make less noise. You can monitor your noise level while in the squat position so if you hear a zed just stop for a little while until they pass by (Or go an kill it)

And if ya want it easier just raise the 24 hour period as high as it will go

I usually just knock holes in the roof and bow shoot from up there (Iron or steel). After the first shot though they leave the cage and head toward the opening in the other side of the roof where they're easier to pick off.

I've got over 10500 hrs in this game and I always play with 240 minute days. Used to be able to set that in a SP game but it disappeared somewhere around A12-A13. I tried playing with 120 minute days but I can't really get into it. When they took that setting away I started renting a server and have rented one ever since. I'd love for that setting to come back. I don't really care if it's balanced or not because I usually change the settings on my server anyway.

Hopefully we'll be able to do 12k!
